However, I wouldn’t recommend any other company for this. The engineer, Frank, is brilliant. He is concise, professional, extremely experienced and very respectful. Other than the exposed area of the floor, where the repair was carried out, you wouldn’t have known he was here as all mess was cleaned away straight after the job. Once the repair was done, Frank checked and then double checked everything was ok before leaving - thanks Frank. Notwithstanding having ADI recommended by a very reliable source, I was doubtful that they could really do what they promised, i.e. Find the leak in our Central Heating pipework hidden in one of two places: (i) A ceramic tiled floor on floorboards, ply-wood and joists, with electric under-floor heating, or (ii) A carpeted area, again with floorboards, ply-wood and joists, all almost hermitically sealed… Darren turned up exactly on-time and undaunted by the task, set out narrowing down the general area with the use of tracer-gas – a task that was very far from easy, due to the way the floors were in both areas “sealed”. He then narrowed it down further with acoustic testing and located the leak, albeit after 3 hours of dedicated work. The leak was very fine mist, so almost impossible to detect using normal equipment, but he did it and found the cause; a badly soldered joint from sixty year ago, which had failed when our new non-vented system was installed a month ago…. Darren made the repair, refitted the floor and carpet, and left us as though nothing had been touched. So a seriously brilliant result and without doubt worth every single penny. When making the booking, the agent went through a thorough assessment of my problem in order to ascertain the best way forward and an appointment was made. Frank arrived at the agreed time and immediately set to finding the leak. It was a very tricky leak to find but he persevered and found it. Unfortunately, the leak was behind a newly installed tiled shower wall. However, Frank narrowed the search down to a tiny area and did minimal damage to our new bathroom in fixing the leak. He then carried out a thorough check afterwards to make sure there were no further leaks. A potentially nightmare scenario was averted due to Frank's expertise. Spoke to Ashley and an appointment was arranged for two days time and an email confirmation with a quote and other information arrived within minutes. On Thursday morning Frank arrived on time, explained the process and immediately made a start. Once the leak was found in a pipe under the bathroom floor he went ahead and did the necessary repair. He then checked for any further leaks and confirmed there were none. Frank was businesslike but friendly throughout - updating us at each stage of the work. I called ADI Leak Detection and from the telephone call I was informed of the process used to locate the leak and given a date and time and the name of the engineer who would be working to find and repair the leak. Scot arrived on time and shutoff the water supply in the house and the checked the meter to determine the amount of water be used. The gas detection equipment was very quickly set up and walking outside the leak was quickly found in a flower bed. From there Scot worked very hard to dig the wet clay subsoil and locate the fitting, which turned out to be a faulty Tee connector and was brass instead of plastic. The fitting was changed to the correct type and the mains was again tested and found to be free of leaks. I was very pleased with the outcome and relieved that this leak had been rectified. As the guys who came out, although they did find the leak, could not find the stop tap So the job was not completed and I had to get the water company out next day and it took them all of 10 mins to find it. So as a 75 year old pensioner I feel that I should have shopped around first for a more competitive quote? But we all learn by our mistakes !! No doubt ADI will respond, with a long winded reply justifying their actions but there you go.... Using non invasive equipment, which is what you asked us to do when you contacted us... We are also gutted that we could not carry out a same-day repair. Rest assured, you have not been charged for a repair. As per the quotation we provided, you were quoted for the two aspects of the job separately (leak detection / repair). We can't do a repair if we can't turn off the water at the stopcock. Unfortunately our engineers do not know the locations of all the stopcocks in the country... (This would require them to be psychics/magicians!) The stopcocks are assets of the local Water Board so we would expect them to tell you where your stopcock is if you don't already know. You witnessed our engineers going back and forth on the phone with the Water Company trying to find it, and spend over an hour digging in the areas highlighted trying to find it. The fact they managed to find the leak without being able to turn off the water is actually quite lucky. We are sorry you can't claim on your house insurance. This is of course outside our control. The only downside to this firm is there prices are quite high in comparison to some others out there ended up paying £975 for Trace and Access and £300 for the repair but it was a Saturday and needed someone ASAP! Explained our issue and what info we had about the leak. Gentleman on the phone was incredibly professional and knowledgeable. Talked me through what would happen and the costings for everything. Decided to pay the extra £100 to have someone come out on the Saturday (the next day) as the wait would have been 10 days for the next available weekday appointment. Frank arrived exactly at the time we were told he would. He came in and found the leak within 2 hours. Turned out it was under our bath and toilet which meant a lot of work for Frank as he had to remove our bath to access the area. He worked incredibly hard over the next few hours and managed to fix the leak and get our bath back with no issues. He kept us informed throughout and was very polite. Where other companies just do the detection, I felt confident from talking to Christian Anthony that locating and repairing the leak in one day would be achievable. I also sent photos showing the underfloor heating pipework so they knew what they were coming to and discussed the issue over the phone. They don't guarantee the repair to be fixed on the same day (which is fine), as I assume they would come in a plumbing van which carried common spare parts. When the engineer turned up, he was in a car, not a van. There were no parts on this van (sorry car), like a normal plumber would have. He did a heat test and said he knew where the area was but would double-check with the gas. He didn't want to fix the pipework, he didn't want to look at it, just said he would need to order a part (16mm coupler) - it's not that specialised, I'm sure he could have gone out and got one. I've been told it's another £595+VAT for a engineer to come back and fix the leak - what if they don't have a part then!!!!! As a company we try to make it really clear from our first encounter that there are multiple factors which influence whether or not we can achieve a same day repair. We go through a detailed conversation with you where we explain our services and provide a quote which is split down into the separate elements of 'leak detection' and 'access/repair' IF it can be carried out on the day. This is precisely because every job has to be assessed on a case-by-case basis, and as much as we would love to carry out every repair on the same day, this is not always possible. In this instance our engineer was using his personal car because his van was in the garage, but I can assure you this had no impact on his plumbing stock. Please be advised that our stock is not a substantial as your regular plumber because we are leak detection engineers, not general plumbers, therefore the majority of what we carry is non-invasive leak detection equipment, along with pipework and parts for most domestic 15 and 22mm pipework. We appreciate you sending photos of the underfloor heating pipework, but it was still not possible to know from this exactly what part would be needed for the repair. As a general rule, we don't order rarer or more specialist parts ahead of a leak detection, because we really don't know what will be needed until the leak is detected, and we don't want to risk ordering and paying up front for parts that are in the end not needed. It is very important to us to ensure that we are carrying out same-day repairs in as many instances as possible, so we have contacted 5 suppliers to see if it would have been possible to source the 16mm UFH compression coupling on the day. Out of the 5, 4 confirmed the earliest the part could be obtained would be for next-day delivery. The Underfloor Heating Store in Basildon was the only one which had the part in stock, but this was approximately a 60-mile drive from your property and up to a 2 hours' drive one way during rush hour. By the end of the job, our engineer had non-invasively located the leak down to two floor tiles and also made access to the leak, ensuring he made it clear to you that the leak could not be repaired, and this was all agreed to by yourself. After hearing about your dissatisfaction regarding the repair we offered to refund you the access charge, which you accepted. We are sorry that you are still not happy and will continue to work on managing our expectations around same-day repairs. Please also be advised that if you were to proceed with the quote for the repair, we would of course order the part in advance now that we know what is needed. The engineer did not check the roof but gave some bad advice on clearing the gutters. We carried out the work as advised. The leak did not stop. We then got 3 independent roofers to look at the roof and they showed clear gaps in the tiling, which was causing the water to leak into the house. So we asked pro leak to come again. They sent the same engineer. They sent Daniel Lancaster. He came to the house and started shouting at my parents for not being able to find the house (even though he’s been there before and there is this new invention called Google maps, which he obviously hadn’t heard about). My Mum then asked him to look at the roof; he refused, he then started making holes in our walls, muttering under his breath. When my Mum asked him to be more gently with our family home he started shouting at her and then left with the work not complete. He left my OAP Mum in tears, we have paid £1000 for this service and all we have had nothing in return. We contacted customers services they have done nothing. This obviously a company which likes to take advantage of vulnerable people. He was here till 19:45 due to knowing he was running abit behind so wanted to ensure he was here for the full day and more as he did not want to leave me without heating any further. He was clean, efficient and kept me well informed on what he was doing and why. He could have finished the job within 2 hours if he went with his gut but wanted to ensure he was 100% right before digging up some flooring. He did a few more tests just to make sure which I am so glad he did. I couldn’t recommend Mark or ADI anymore. Hopefully I won’t need to contact you again however this is the only company I will use going forward and/or recommend to anyone who requires this kind of service. Thank you ADI and thank you mark! Acted in a way that I was a pain, even when discussing simple things like where he could park. Once it was discovered that there was no leak at all (a mistake made by a previous different contractor from a different company), no other helpful info was provided. Once the engineer left, I tried to get in contact to try and find some more information out, and heard nothing back. I also tried to get in contact to discuss the possibility of a reduction in costs, as the engineer had no leak to actually fix, and was only on site for a few hours, but have had no other communication. It’s my own mistake for even hiring this company, after being wrongfully told my flat had a leak, as I shouldn’t have rushed to get one of the first companies I found. But by having zero follow up help or communication, and for the extortionate price for the “call-out” even when No leak was found, worked on or fixed. I would have expected some help and leniency. Just make sure you definitely 100% have a leak before hiring this company. We found a pool of water on our drive. I turned water off at mains stopcock in the house and monitored the electronic mains water meter which increased by 6 units over an hour, which suggested a small leak. I took photos at start and end of the hour for my records. I called ADI, they send out an engineer, who runs a number of tests, agrees there is a leak, can't find the pipe, so can't mend the leak. We get sent a report which says that we did have a leak but then it stopped. We asked to the hole that was dug to find the pipe to be left. This all cost £714. We went away for a week and returned to find the hole was completely full of water. We called ADI again, and I was asked to conduct the same test - stop the water and monitor the electronic mains meter - which again showed an increase of 6 units over 1 hour - again with photos to prove it, sent to ADI. I have the email which says that they don't think we have a leak, and that it is from elsewhere, so they need proof the meter is moving. When this proof is provided, I get a 'sounds like the leak has started again' and that it would take 2 engineers to find and fix the leak. In under 3 hours, the pipe was found and the leak was fixed. The report that was sent this time says that the leak rate had suddenly increased dramatically, in fact it intimate that I said it had increased, but in no way did I say that - I said it looked to have remained exactly the same. So to be told it had amazingly increased dramatically, that finding the pipe and therefore the pipe was now easy and the fix was done for the princely sum of another £1284 leaves me more than a little suspicious. Reading other reviews suggests I am not alone. Cue the response about best engineers and reports and service is task based not hourly etc. I was most irritated by the appalling customer service lady when I rang to investigate and express my concerns. Being told that I clearly don't understand their service and have problems listening (and as a director of a professional services company that is a little worrying) in a patronizing and supercilious manner left a very bad taste in the mouth. I would avoid, if I were you. An appointment was made for 10:00 a.m. the following morning. Our technician, James (Jimmy) arrived on time and was extremely knowledgeable. We quickly located the leak in the cold water feed to our downstairs toilet/shower room. James excavated the area where the water was with minimal disruption. The pipe at fault was in the unit behind the toilet, housing the concealed cistern. With precision James uncovered the damaged piece of 22 mm pipe, cut it out, and replaced with new pipe and fittings. He tidied up the area, pressure tested the whole system, checking for leaks, and reinstated the unit and toilet. Excellent service from a polite and well mannered technician. It would cost them virtually nothing to fix this so Be Warned, there is No after sales service. This is why our service includes backfilling only, not tarmacking. After being pressured by yourselves, we agreed reluctantly to re-tarmac the excavation. Please bear in mind there was no charge for this because we refunded costs associated with this at your request. So considering this is not a service we usually offer, and we did not charge you for the work, it definitely stands that the tarmacking did not come with a guarantee in this case. However, our guarantee and after care most certainly does apply to chargeable work that we carry out to repair pipework leaks. The office admin staff advised us to fire up the heating before the plumber came, which masked the problem and made it impossible to detect the leak or fix it. As soon as the plumber left and the system cooled, the boiler started dropping pressure again. We are nearly £1000 poorer and have not had the problem resolved. We separately got another plumber to further investigate and isolate the problem area but will still need the leak tracing. ADI have refused to send the plumber back to finish the job unless we pay >£700 call out fee +£300 repair costs again. Unfortunately we don't have an automated service to take down the card details, however the process that we use is absolutely secure and compliant. He started the detection process by using both Thermal Imaging & moisture meter, which identified possible areas where a leak could be present. He then pressure washed the system using a cleaning agent. After a length conversation taking into account the majority of the existing pipework was 30 years old. I decided the solution wasn't to try and repair the pipework in question, as there was a strong possibility of reoccurrence elsewhere and look to renew the pipework above ground. Though expensive at £810 for the days work, it provided me with a clear understanding of the issue, which 3 other plumbers were unable to do. We were charged £800 for a piece of paper telling us the leak was in a vague area around our outside tap. Engineer left our holiday home telling us it was a “two man job” and was unable to do it. Even though we were losing water at a rate of 1.5 litres a min. Their guarantee is not valid. They don’t utilise it. Engineer was unable to even turn the stopcock off. He was scared he would break it. In response water board said there was nothing wrong with the stopcock. Our saga went on for a month and half - at one point we were left with no water overnight even to flush the toilet. We resorted to phoning another local leak detection firm who in contrast were excellent and found the leak in another area and carried out the fix efficiently at a better price. However we had already paid ADI £800 for a useless “report”. A couple of sentences on a page saying the leak was near the tap (it was not it was further down). I complained and their response has been a complete waste of my time. Please think carefully before using this firm. Their fee (£714) was very high IMO. They say they will use all sorts of fancy equipment but he only did an audio test and then ran a gas test then left. I was promised a comprehensive report that my insurance company could not help but follow their recommendations to fund the works needed. The report said nothing that he said it would and with no visible evidence of damage it would be on me to resolve at my own cost. Their quote to repair was £1782, stating the leak was under the utility room sink and included taking out new cabinets and lifting the floor beneath. Their caveats were that they would not be responsible if they damaged anything and would not put everything back how it was. Instead I opted to use local contractors who removed the cabinets and lifted the floor only to find no leak. I asked them to just keep looking, eventually finding the leak at the other end of the room, not where ADI said it was. I requested a refund but they said no, not even offering a partial refund, hiding behind their T&Cs. The leak was a hole in a pipe spraying at force up at the underside of the floor so some of that expensive equipment surely would of found it if used properly. If you have a leak in your house and you want to know which part of the house it is in but not exactly where, and you have a lot of money to spend, then feel free to hire ADI. Otherwise shop around and read the reviews. Reply from ADI Leak Detection: > Dear Customer, Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, it is the case that when you have a plastic membrane under the floor, many of our detection methods are rendered ineffective because the membrane prevents the leak evidence from coming up through the floor. Neither thermal imaging cameras nor damp meters will pick up any leak evidence through the membrane. This is why we can't apply the No Find No Fee guarantee to pipework under a plastic membrane, and why the only evidence that could be picked was acoustic evidence and tracer gases, which were being pushed to the edges of the room by the membrane. Our engineer explained to you verbally, and tried to convey in the report that this is why no damage was visible, and that after exposing the pipework where the evidence was picked up, some tracking of the pipe may be required until the actual source of the leak was identified. It would be at this stage that we would have been able to identify damage caused by the leak, and provide you with another report in support of a valid claim. We are sorry to hear you found the report substandard, and if you had made our team aware of this, we would have been happy to make any necessary additions / amendments. As our engineers are time served plumbers (not carpenters) it is true that we cannot carry out the reinstatement of damage caused accessing a leak. We are aware that this is tricky for our customers, and it is a goal of ours to eventually be able to offer the reinstatement services as well.
